Do you want Abdul Kalam re-elected? 3 Sorry!

Hi Srilakshmi,
I wish I had a magic wand to make your wish come true! Kalam was really a model Prez, wasn’t he? But he has one major shortcoming in our totally politicised government. He is non-political. Political parties have decided he is too dangerous to have in a position where his signature is necessary to make a bill an Act of Parliament. That man asks for clarifications! He goes over bills and tries to pick holes in them! He won’t be a rubber stamp always! This man doesn’t understand politics at all!
A politician commented that any Prez candidate ought to be from the political stable. A contradicition, actually, since the Prez is supposed to be above party politics!
At the time of writing, the Congress party has decided on Shivraj Patil :-( union home minister. In all probability he will win, with Mayawati going with the Congress. She has made her bargain with the Taj corridor case, right?
The NDA wants to support BS Shekawat, who will stand as an independent candidate. The third front, which was floated recently, will go into a conclave on 18 June. Kalam, I guess will go back to teaching. The country’s loss is the students’ gain.
